On the weekend of <strong>19th to 21st October 2018<\/strong>, Weaving Hearts participated in the <strong>Qube Night Market<\/strong> at <strong>Sutera Avenue<\/strong> from <strong>6PM to 11PM<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Qube is a night market that sells foods, drinks, desserts and also arts &amp; crafts. We are very thankful to be invited by the organizer, Shermaine, to participate in this event for as long as 3 days. This gave Weaving Hearts an opportunity and another outlet to promote awareness of the harm of using plastic straws.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Did you know that 500 Million of plastic straws are wasted in the U.S every single day?<\/strong> It is enough to circle around the earth <strong>2.5 times<\/strong>! Plastic straw usage is also increasing in other countries including our own Malaysia too. We are the <strong>8th<\/strong> most plastic wastage country in the world that used up to <strong>31 Million<\/strong> plastic straws per year! Plastic is a non-biodegradable material that can be mold into pretty much anything. It is used by many manufacturers because the cost of plastic is cheap! Look around you now and you\u2019ll see you\u2019re living in a world of plastic. Trash Travels estimates that plastic bags can take up to 20 years to decompose, plastic bottles up to 450 years, and fishing line, 600 years. A lot of people realise that our earth is slowly dying, however, not many people are stepping out start to make changes on this.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is one of the many reasons for us to get involved in this event, to raise the awareness of plastic usage among people.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We were very excited about this event so we have prepped everything nicely, we cleaned our bamboo straws with vinegar and tagged our pouch individually before the Qube Night Market. Double checked everything before packing our bamboo straws into the pouch and we were good to go!<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Finally on Friday (19\/10\/2018)! Bamboo straws are biodegradable straws that can be decomposed after being throw away. Because our bamboo straws are cut from the natural bamboo plants, their length or width is not uniform or equally same with one another, same goes for their colour too, some bamboo straws might have natural black spots or unequal colour that comes in either green or yellow. \u00a0No bamboo straw is perfect, right?<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1907 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/weavinghearts.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Image-from-iOS-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" srcset=\"https:\/\/weavinghearts.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Image-from-iOS-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/weavinghearts.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Image-from-iOS-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bamboo straws can be reused for as long as 8 months or depending on how you take care of them. <strong>How to clean a bamboo straw?<\/strong> \u00a0A bamboo straw can be cleaned in many methods, it can be cleaned with a cleaning brush, by threading or even just soak it in soapy water and rinse it. If you want to clean it thoroughly, get a pot of hot water and add a spoon of vinegar in and soak your bamboo straw for 10 to 20 minutes, this can be done monthly. Make sure to dry your bamboo straw fully after rinsing in vinegar before consuming any drinks, don&#8217;t worry they dry up very quick!<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Not only that, <strong>50% of Weaving Heart\u2019s profit<\/strong> will be used for community services like beach cleaning programs or to support Go Green projects.
